Passed away unexpectedly, at home on February 28, 2010. She had lived with heart disease and memory loss for the past several years. Wife of the late Francisco “Frank” Ormonde. Mother of Lillian Jones-Uriarte and her husband Pablo of Rohnert Park and Frank Ormonde of Petaluma. Grandmother of Cyndi Oman and her husband Brian of Phoenix, AZ and Joseph Ormonde of Petaluma. Great-grandmother of Tyler, Trevor, Jasen and Jacob Oman.

Alvinda was born on April 16, 1923 in Terceira, Azores. She met and married her husband of 46 years in 1947 while he was vacationing there to visit his family. She immigrated to the United States with Frank and settled in San Rafael where they began their family. In 1951 the family moved to Petaluma and she fulfilled her goal to becoming a US citizen and attended night school in order to become fluent in speaking, reading, writing the English language, plus driving instructions in order to obtain her license. She was employed at Sunset Line & Twine for 24 years, retiring at the age of 63. Gardening and cooking were her main hobbies. She was known for baking masa sevada (Portuguese sweet bread) and her apple pies were a family favorite.

A member of St. James Catholic Church, IDES of Petaluma and Novato, and SPRSI of Novato.

Friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass, Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church, 125 Sonoma Mountain Pkwy., Petaluma. A Visitation will be held on Monday, March 8, 2010 from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM with a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM at PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hanna Boys Center or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
