Carolyn Tobin Obituary

A long-time resident of Novato and Middletown, CA., passed away peacefully on May 28, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Born in San Francisco, CA on August 19, 1937, the oldest child of Irene and Ralph Greaves. Carolyn leaves behind her husband of 60 years, William T. Tobin, their five children Mike (Jody), Patty (Frank), Mary, Chris (Christy), Anne (Dan), thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mom was a devoted, loving wife, mother, sister, cousin and friend. She was truly a selfless and beautiful person who focused on her family and community.

Raised in the Mission District, she attended St. Anthony’s Grammar School and Immaculate Conception Academy where she honed her skills for doing crossword puzzles and playing Jeopardy and Trivial Pursuit.

She married Dad in 1957 and recently celebrated their 60 year wedding anniversary with all five of us kids in Dillon Beach. It was a very special weekend for all of us.

Mom’s faith was at the center of everything she did. She was a member of Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Parish in Novato for 37 years, volunteering with many organizations (Helping Hands, Catholic Charities and Cursillo to name a few). She was also a Teacher’s Aid in the Novato School District.

Mom loved listening to music and became somewhat of a celebrity in 1978 when she won $100,000 on “Name That Tune”. With her winnings, she and Dad were able to purchase their place at Konocti Estates in Clearlake. Mom loved being on the water, entertaining, spending time with her friends and taking a dip off the dock.

After moving to Middletown, she became a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish, volunteering with Dad in The Food Bank and joining the Choir and her beloved Bible Study Group. She also found time for The Fire Sirens and Trivial Pursuit Club.

Everyone wanted to be Mom’s friend. We were fortunate to be her family. She was talented, witty, loving and lit up any room she was in. We will miss her every day.

Please join our family for a Catholic Mass and Celebration of her life at 10:30 am on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Twin Pine Hotel Event Center, Middletown, CA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the William and Carolyn Tobin Family Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Vincent de Paul High School, 849 Keokuk Street, Petaluma, CA 94952
