Nickales P. "Nick" Navarra

NICKALES PETER "NICK" NAVARRA passed away on February 10, 2018 in Petaluma at the age of 86 years.  Devoted husband of the late Ida F. Navarra.  Cherished father of Susan Navarra (Larry Tomlinson) of Santa Rosa, and the late Carol Navarra and Tony Navarra.  Beloved grandfather of Antonia Navarra of Petaluma.  Adored brother of Joanne Jacobs, Lorraine Symynuk both of San Francisco and the late Sam Navarra. Dear brother-in-law of Will Grundhauser.  Survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and his canine companion, Angel.

Nick was born, reared and educated in San Francisco.  Nick was a hard worker from a very young age.  He started selling newspapers at the age of 12 and later worked as a furrier and in a butcher shop.  He met and married the love of his life, Ida, and together they enjoyed 44 years of marriage.  It was while working for his father-in-law, Nick Dapiran, in the janitorial industry that inspired him to open his own janitorial company in San Francisco.  He and his family moved to Petaluma in 1971 where Nick began his career in real estate investment and development, which he operated for 65 years.  During this time, he also owned and operated a taxi business and the PDQ Drive-In.  In his spare time, Nick enjoyed collecting various artifacts, statues and coins.  And, not only did Nick collect things, he also collected people.  His infectious laugh, vibrancy, and outgoing nature inherently drew people to him; he made friends wherever he went. Nick was a wonderful man; he will be greatly missed.

Friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass, Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 35 Liberty St., Petaluma.  A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at the PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma.  In honor of Nick, the family requests guests to wear bright colors.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Petaluma.  Interment: Italian Cemetery, Colma.
