Donald D. Hughes - Passed away on February 14, 2008 in his home with his family around him. Born in Glassport, PA on the 23 September 1917 he was the son of William Honsaker Hughes and Sarah Elizabeth Soxman Hughes of Fairchance, PA. Devoted husband of Billie Hughes of Petaluma. Adored father of Richard Hughes (Marilyn) of Bodega and Terry Nommsen of Petaluma. Loving father-in-law of the late Fred Nommsen. Beloved grandfather of Shelley Fiori (Peter) of Benicia, Jeffrey Hughes (Kathy) of Cotati, and Cheryl Mohrman (Chris) and Mike Nommsen (Lori) all of Rohnert Park. Cherished great-grandfather of Rebecca Powell (Grant) of ID, Leslie Montgomery (James) of Benicia, Eric Nommsen (Amanda), Lacey Nommsen, Kelsey Mohrman, and John Mohrman all of Rohnert Park, Jacob Hughes of Cotati and Kimberly Fiori of Benicia. Dear great-great-grandfather of Bryson and Natalie Powell of ID. Predeceased by 9 brothers and sisters. Survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

At the age of 3, he moved with his family to CA, where his family finally settled in Burlingame. On Sept. 16, 1938, Donald married Billie and together they enjoyed 69 years of marriage. Working for Bethlehem Steel for 35 years, he was very active in the steel workerâ??s union, helping his fellow members. After his retirement in 1977 and loving to be around animals, Donald worked as a dairy, cattle, and sheep rancher and enjoyed country life. He was an active leader for many years in the San Mateo and San Bruno 4-H clubs, continuing that work with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren during their 4-H years. He also worked with the Boy Scouts. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf, reading, doing word games, and making things out of steel for his family. Above all else, he loved being with his family and friends.
