Alan Roy Wernstrum 02/18/44~03/25/21. Loving husband died peacefully at home on Thursday afternoon, March 25th. Alan was born in Ottawa, Ill the only child of Roy and Ethel Wernstrum (decd.); their small family moved from Ottawa to San Rafael, CA in 1954 where Alan attended local schools, graduated from San Rafael High School, attended College of Marin.  He served in the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam Era.  He spent his career in law enforcement.

Survived by his wife Lonnie J. Wernstrum who was beside him at his death; sister-in-law and brother-in- law Debra & Kenneth Tisdale of Petaluma; nieces Emily Tisdale and Allison Cresci (Steven), great nieces Guiliana and Nicolina Cresci of Petaluma; special cousin James (Bobby) Lewis of Camarillo, CA; high school friend, Calvin White of Alpine, CA; dear friend, the “daily caller,” James Lake of Mendota Heights, MN. Alan and Lonnie were married 44 years, and have resided in the Hessel area of Sebastopol for 42 years a home he loved always thinking of and planning the next project. Alan was a collector, some things good some things not so good! He was not much of a traveler but did enjoy taking long and short road trips with Lonnie, he was easily convinced to take a Tauck Tour to the east coast. He truly loved our getaways to Little River Inn!

Alan was diagnosed with chronic-persistent atrial-fibrillation a number of years ago which led to a serious stroke 2 years ago resulting in declining health. With gratitude to Alan’s primary care physician Saw W. Aye, M.D.; the cardio care unit at Stanford University Medical Center; the kind, compassionate care of American Guardian Hospice in Alan’s final days.

Services are private with interment at the Two Rock Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Guardian Hospice, 237 Estudillo Ave. Suite 201, San Leandro, CA 94577 or Two Rock Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, 7063 Bodega Ave., Petaluma, CA 94952.
