Alba Marian Silva

Born in Petaluma to Gueseppi “Joe” and Teresa Zucchetti and attended elementary school in Olema where she grew up on a dairy ranch.  Alba was a graduate of Petaluma High School, class of 1933.  Alba attended nurse’s training in San Francisco after high school.  Upon completing her training, she worked as an office nurse for Dr. Kathleen Morris for 29 years.

She married Russell Silva in 1934, a union that lasted 62 years until his passing in 1996.

As a teenager, she was one of the original “Petaluma Slick Chicks,” a Chamber of Commerce promotion for the City of Petaluma.

During her lifetime, Alba was an active member of the YLI, CLAS, ABWA, and the Petaluma Woman’s Club, serving as President of all four organizations.  She was the first female president of the American Heart Association, Redwood Empire Chapter.  In her later years, Alba volunteered and worked for the Petaluma Visitors Bureau, retiring from that organization at age 96.

Alba was predeceased by her parents, brother Henry, husband Russell, and her beloved grandson, Christopher Silva.  She is survived by her son Al Silva (Barbara); grandson Jeff Silva (Stacy); and six great-grandchildren, Joseph, Sydney, Lauren, Ben, Molly and Ari Silva.

Alba’s motto: “I’m not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday, and I love today.”

Friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass, Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. James Catholic Church, 125 Sonoma Mountain Pkwy., Petaluma.  A Visitation will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at the PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Christopher Silva Endowment Fund, c/o SRJC Foundation, 1501 Mendocino Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA 95401, or online: www.santarosa.edu/foundation.  Entombment: Calvary Cemetery, Petaluma.
