Alice Kennedy Mars

November 29, 1918 — November 10, 2014

ALICE K. MARS passed away peacefully at home on November 10, 2014 with her children by her side. Alice was born in Chicago, IL on November 29, 1918. Following the Great Depression, she left Chicago in 1941 at the age of 22 for a job with the U.S. Bureau of Engraving & Printing in Washington DC. She stayed with the Federal Government for many years, which led to interesting opportunities with the American Consulate General in Senegal, Africa and the U.S. War Department on the island of Guam. She met her husband Hadley on Guam while he was serving in the U.S. Army. They were married in 1951. His assignments took them to France and Germany where they enjoyed traveling throughout Europe. Her varied interests included dancing, poetry, painting, gardening and music. Her love of music led her to return to school at the age of 65 to pursue her interest in songwriting. She loved being back in school and though she was often the oldest student in class, she enjoyed the learning environment and made new friends with students of all ages. In recent years, Alice attended the Senior Day Program in Petaluma where she formed new friendships and enjoyed the company of other seniors. Her greatest joy was her family. Her love and support for her children was unconditional. Her sense of humor, playful spirit, and her positive outlook were appreciated by family, friends and anyone who met her. She was always a joy to be with. She will be missed so very much by her son Eddy Mars, daughter and son-in-law Amy and Wayne Dufond and granddaughter Cassie Dufond. There will be a private inurnment at Calvary Cemetery in Petaluma. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to Hospice of Petaluma or the charity of your choice. In honor of Alice, please remember to dance. Family assisted by PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, Petaluma.
