Alvarina Luis Alves

Alvarina Luis Alves passed away peacefully on May 4, 2019 in Petaluma, California. Beloved mother of Matilda Lomax, Albano Alves, Alfonso Alves, Irene Eastham, David Alves, Carol Silva, Lourie Rebizzo, and Manuel Alves. Grandmother of 17 and Great grandmother of 5. Loving sister of Rogerio Luis, Tiberio Luis, Cremilde Reis, and Linda Prudencio. Alvarina was predeceased by her loving husband, Jose Antonio Alves, sisters Regina Reis, Maria Luis, Carolina Linhares, and brother Fernando Luis. She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.

She was born on December 14, 1934 in Sao Jorge, Azores. Her family immigrated to California in 1973, and she has resided in Petaluma for the past 37 years. She worked at Lace House Linen for 30 years until retiring. She loved to cook and bake, and was best known for her rosquilhas de agua ardente. She was an avid crocheter, loved jigsaw puzzles, and playing sueca and canasta with family and friends. She was a member of Petaluma Holy Ghost and Senhor Santo Cristo Society, where she enjoyed volunteering her time and donating her baked goods.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary & Crematory, 850 Keokuk Street, Petaluma. Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral mass, Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 125 Sonoma Mountain Pkwy, Petaluma. Interment: Calvary Cemetery, Petaluma.
