Alyne Marie Anderson

August 13, 1925 — November 2, 2013

ALYNE MARIE ANDERSON passed away early morning Nov. 2, holding the hand of the Lord in one hand and her husband, Eric's hand in the other. Her ancestry in Petaluma dates back to the early 1850's on her father's side and 1890's on her mother's. She was a fifth generation Petaluma resident, born into a large well known and respected family. She was the 9th of 12 children. Daughter of Arthur and Dora Evans, her father was one of the owners of the North Bay Monument Co. that was located on the corner on Cemetery Lane and Petaluma Blvd. North. Arthur's artistry in marble and tile is visible in many of the older buildings and churches of Petaluma, and cemeteries of Northern California. Alyne had a very happy childhood and many fond memories. Her best was the many camping trips with the family at the beach. Swimming and surfing during the day, campfires with a lot of singing and storytelling at night. Alyne is survived by her husband of 67 plus years, Eric A. Anderson. They were high school sweethearts and graduated from Petaluma High School in 1943 and married in 1946 while Eric was still in the Navy. After the Navy, Alyne worked for the University of Colorado while Eric finished his studies. They returned to California in 1949 and lived in San Jose area for a few years before returning to Petaluma with three young children. They moved to an old chicken ranch, cleaned up the property, remodeled the home and made it a wonderful place to raise their surviving children: Eric L. Anderson, (Isa) of Willits, Leslie J. Anderson, of Rohnert Park, and Paul V. Anderson (Susan) of Petaluma. When all three had left home, Alyne and Eric built a home in Oceana Marin, Dillon Beach, and moved there in 1976. The home was about half way up the hill with a beautiful view of the beach and Tomales Bay. It was here that Alyne spent many happy hours with her eight surviving grandchildren: Surya and Jamil Anderson, Eric and Nicholas Ronsheimer, Peter, Jacob, Cullen Anderson, and Molly (Anderson) Bjerregaard of Denmark. She took them down to the beach many times to dig in the sand and climb the cliffs. The sand dunes grew tall grass and made a good place to hide from Grandma. When they were older, she taught them all how to boogy board. They are all now in their thirties and fondly recall those good times. In 2003, because of health problems, the Andersons moved back to Petaluma. Alyne loved music and had a beautiful trained voice. She sang in the junior and senior choirs of the St. John's Episcopal Church and the Tomales Presbyterian Church for many years. Alyne is also survived by her sisters, Bessie Moore of Sacramento, Blanche Lieb of Petaluma, as well as eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Eric and the rest of the family are grateful for the care of Hospice of Petaluma, and the exceptional loving care of Care Givers Irene Drauna, Sara Packard and Nicole Amaral. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Nov 16, starting at 2:30 pm at St. John's Episcopal Church, 40 Fifth St., Petaluma. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 or Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. Family assisted by PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, Petaluma.
