Dr. Ann Theresa Licata

August 16, 1936 — September 10, 2016

DR. ANN THERESA LICATA of Petaluma, formerly of Newburgh, NY, entered into eternal rest surrounded by family on September 10, 2016. She was 80 years old. She had resided in Petaluma for 11 years. The daughter of Louis and Frances (Settoducato) Manzo, Ann was born on August 16, 1936 at the Brooklyn Hospital in Bensonhurst, NY. Our mother's life was devoted to both education and family. Most of her career was in the elementary schools of the Newburgh School District. She began at The Broadway School and continued at Temple Hill. Upon retirement, she launched a career as a college professor at Mount Saint Mary College, Newburgh, and finished as a catechism teacher at St. James in Petaluma. Our mother blessed her students with curiosity and a love of learning. She will be missed dearly by all. In Petaluma, Mom attended Bible study at St. John's Lutheran Church, and taught catechism at St. James Catholic Church. She was an active member of the Women's Club and the Garden Club as well. Our mother attended the Juilliard School of Music in Manhattan in 1956. In 1970, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Mount Saint Mary College. In 1975, she attained her Master of Arts degree from New York University. By 1992, she graduated from Fordham University with her Doctor of Philosophy degree. Mom was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed attending the San Francisco Symphony performances. Music was always an important part of her life. On February 9, 1957, our mother married Guy Thomas Licata, who predeceased her on September 21, 2003. She is survived by her three children: Therese Licata Paff of Highland, NY; Dr. Thomas Licata of Beaverton, OR; and Dr. Stephen Licata of Petaluma. Her memory lives on in her eight wonderful grandchildren whom she loved with her whole heart and her two great grandchildren whom she adored. The family would also like to acknowledge the life-long friendship of Alice and the late Tilford Stiteler, Mark Stiteler, and Tilford and Dayna Stiteler. The family would also like to especially thank Mom's team of physicians at Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae. Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
