Annie Altemia Minatta

Our beloved "Nana Girl" went to be with Papa on Sept. 11, 2013 with her daughter holding her hand. She was 97 years old. She is survived by her son, Larry "Sonny" Minatta (Jan), daughter, Barbara Lombardi Ryan (Tom), grandson Dino Minatta (Ally), granddaughters, Janine Lombardi McDonald, Donna Lombardi Chelemedos (Rick), Danyell Minatta Rosa (Rick) and great grandchildren, Nico Lombardi, Natalia, Dario and Dantia Minatta, Connor McDonald, Dante Ratto, and Peyton and Parker Rosa. She is also survived by her sister, Ethel Gragg of San Pablo, her sister-in-law Loretta (Ping) Campbell of Twin Falls, Idaho and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Minatta, her parents, Lorenzo and Anita Albonico and siblings, Kay Grets, Joe Albonico, Ethel Albonico, Lorenzo Albonico, Rose Barbatti and Andrina Anderson. Annie was born in Covelo, Mendocino County on November 15, 1915. The family moved to Manchester also in Mendocino County when Annie was in elementary school. When her mother died, her father could not care for his family so she moved to Point Arena to live with a school teacher. She graduated from Point Arena High School in 1933. She was voted Miss Popularity of Mendocino County by the Farm Bureau in 1938. Her brother, Joe introduced her to Ed while she was working in an ice cream parlor in Point Arena. They were married on June 25, 1939 in Tracy, CA. They were married for 71 years when Ed passed away in 2010. They first settled in Richmond, CA where she worked at the ammunition factory during WWII. They moved to Sonoma County in 1948. She worked with her husband running Minatta Transportation and Minatta Rock Yard in Cotati. She always loved to have a good time and could often be found with a Manhattan in her hand and dancing away on the dance floor at The Green Mill Inn. She was loved by everyone who ever met her and never had a mean word to say to anyone. She loved the ocean and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. She was "Nana Girl" to her family and will be missed by all of us. She was a founding member of the Cotati Parlor No. 299 of the Native Daughters of the Golden West. The entire Minatta family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Moore, Sutter Home Hospice and Nana's caregivers, Marion and Karen, whose care and compassion made her final days comfortable. We are very fortunate Mom was able to remain home with the love of her entire family to comfort her. Visitation will be held, Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm at PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. Family and friends are also invited to attend the Funeral Mass, Friday, September 20, 2013 at 1:00 pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 150 St. Joseph Way, Cotati.
