Antonio "Tony" Azevedo - Passed away peacefully at home in Petaluma, Friday, September 23, 2011. Born in Novato, CA on August 28, 1921 to the late Manuel and Marianna Azevedo. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Agnes, in 2007 as well as four brothers and four sisters. Tony is survived by his three dear children Steven Azevedo (Gail) of Santa Rosa, Claudia Thompson of Walnut Creek and Paul Azevedo (Lisa) of Petaluma. Tony was the beloved grandfather to Maria Giovanni of El Cerrito, Marc Azevedo (Sarah) of Santa Rosa, Angelo Azevedo (Renda) of Raleigh, NC, Aaron Azevedo (Heidi) of Chino, CA, Colin Azevedo of San Francisco, and Rachel and Claire Thompson of Walnut Creek. He was recently blessed with a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Azevedo of Chino. He is also survived by his brother John Azevedo (Lee) of Novato and several cherished nieces and nephews. Tony loved to bowl, play chess and read books. He was an avid baseball fan and an excellent mechanic. Tony was able to enjoy a happy 90th birthday last month with champagne, cake and his favorite strawberry ice cream. Friends and family are invited to the Vigil Service, Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 7:15 PM at PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. Family and friends are also invited to meet on Friday, September 30, 2011 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 35 Liberty St., Petaluma, where at 11:00 AM a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Entombment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Petaluma. The family prefers that memorials be made to the Alzheimerâ??s organization of your choice or the American Heart Association. Tony proudly served in the United States Navy as Gunnerâ??s Mate First Class during World War II. After the War ended he married the love of his life Agnes Pimentel in 1946. After working many years on his father-in-lawâ??s dairy in Penngrove, he moved the family to Petaluma in 1967 where he was employed by the Sonoma County School District. He worked as head custodian for Petaluma High School for over 20 years.
