Antonio ("Tony") Pimental Medeiros, Sr., a prominent maker of things, from wooden toys to rebuilding of cars died Sunday, 6th September 2015 from a broken heart. He was 67 years old, soft spoken, obsessive and a man that lived his life in his own way, without exception a hopeless romantic.
Antonio was born 7 November 1947 in his beloved country, Santa Barbara, Sao Miguel, Azores. He arrived to the United States in 1971 after serving in the Portuguese Army for three years. He lived in Point Reyes National Seashore, CA working first on the Lunny Ranch and many years on the Mendoza Ranch.
He was an inquisitive man, spent much of his time learning as much as he could, reading encyclopedias, newspapers and listening to educate himself and be a man of the world even though he traveled little, mostly visits back to his homeland. As a young man, he was would sneak away from his small village and go into the city in search of adventure.
To say he loved futbol (soccer) is an understatement. He loved futbol and his favorite team Benfica. He could speak of them for hours and at length about plays, scores, the players and their history and origins. He shared these moments mostly with his brothers - their deepest connection.
He was an artist who loved to cook for his family, draw, write and one of his favorites, build a seasonal nativity scene that sometimes would fill an entire room. It was alive and thriving with waterfalls, moss, lights and music. He enjoyed music from the 50's, Elvis and the Beatles, but had a love for Portuguese Folklore music, Fados that kept the nostalgia of his country alive.
Antonio is survived by his children Patricia Parreira (Joao), Tony Medeiros, Jr (Nicole), Anna Medeiros (Donald Cassity), two granddaughters Caitlin and Abby Medeiros, his mother Maria Botelho and late father Antonio Silva Medeiros, his siblings Angie (Joe) Catarina, John (Alda), Carlos (Helena), Luis, Fernando (Luisa), Henry (Bernadette), Domingos (Delia), Rosario Silva, late brother Jose (Angie) Medeiros and numerous nieces and nephews that will miss him dearly.
Antonio's family would like to thank those who participated in his care over the last year. Georg Wieselthaler, M.D. for giving us another year with our father, son, brother and friend. Van Selby, M.D. and Munir Janmohamed, M.D. for the hours you spent joking with him, talking and about soccer, the Azores and listening to his music. The UCSF Mechanical Circulatory Support Program team (Christy, Michele, Sonia and Kelly) for the love and support you gave him and our family; showing us what it truly means to be a nurse and caregiver. To our Uncle Luis for taking him as your roommate. And Nicole Medeiros, Donald Cassity and Joao Parreira for opening your hearts and homes to a stubborn man. He loved you all very much! Many, many thanks to all who supported us.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to support the UCSF Heart & Vascular Center: https://makeagift.ucsf.edu/site/SPageServer?pagename=A1_API_GeneralGivingForm
