Augustine “Augie” Rivas, born November 12, 1943, in San Jose, CA, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on April 25, 2026.
Augie was the third of three children. He grew up on a fruit orchard in Mountain View, where he helped harvest cherries and apricots and attended school until his family moved to Lakeport during his senior year. Less than five years later, Augie married his soulmate, Kathy Jean Fuqua, on January 30, 1965. They made their home in Petaluma and were married for 61 years. He is survived by his wife, Kathy, daughters Tina (Jeff Costa) and Kristy (Jerry Spaletta), and sister, Mary Rivas.
In 1960, Augie began his career with PG&E, where he worked for more than 35 years. A lifelong outdoorsman and sportsman, he enjoyed abalone diving at Bodega Bay and was an avid bowler who once rolled a perfect 300. Golf came later in life, and he eventually served as the Tournament Director of the Senior Men's Golf Club at Rooster Run and, on Father's Day at age 81, he sank his first hole-in-one. He was also active with PCCB, serving as Executive Secretary.
One of Augie’s greatest joys was watching his four grandchildren, Taylor Costa, Nichole Costa, Ben Spaletta, and Eda Grace Spaletta, pursue and achieve their dreams.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Juanita Rivas, and his brother Frank Rivas (Julie).
The funeral will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Church on Friday, May 1, at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider sending donations to Providence Hospice of Petaluma (416 Payran Street, Petaluma, CA 94952).
