Aurelio "Gig" Gonella - Died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on August 5, 2009. He was 85 years old. Gig is survived by his wife, Else, two sons, Victor and Chris, daughters in law, Sabrina and Theresa, three grandsons: Oreste, Vito and Sonny and a brother, John Gonella, a resident of San Mateo.
Family and friends are invited to the Funeral Mass at St. James Catholic Church, 125 Sonoma Mountain Parkway, Petaluma at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2009. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Hospice of Petaluma, 416 Payran St., Petaluma, CA 94952.
Gig was born and raised in San Francisco. After high school, in 1944, he enlisted in the Army Air Force and served in World War II, Pacific Theatre. He attended San Francisco City College and the Academy of Art College where he received an MA in art and design. He worked in New York City as an art director. Returning to San Francisco, he worked for Dancer Fitzgerald & Sample Advertising Agency (now Satchi & Satchi) for 25 years as creative director. He won numerous awards including Cannes Film Festivalâ??s Award for a dog food commercial: â??A Square Meal in a Round Canâ?
