B. June Smith - June went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 20, 2010. She passed away at her Santa Rosa residence with her family present. Devoted wife, for 64 years, of Frank Smith, Jr. of Santa Rosa, CA. Loving mother of Keith Smith of Santa Rosa, CA and the late Dennis Smith. Cherished grandmother of Daniel Smith of Santa Rosa. Dear mother-in-law of Shirley Smith of Rohnert Park. Survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Though battling Alzheimer's Disease for several years with it's slow, degenerative symptoms, June never lost her sweet smiling face and gentle, loving nature. A Visitation will be on Friday, January 29, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary and Crematory, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma, CA. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will be on Monday, February 1, 2010 at 12 Noon at Alta Mesa Memorial Park, Palo Alto, CA. "June""", as she was known by so many friends and family was born in Ava, Missouri on September 6, 1925. As a teenager, the family moved west to settle in South San Francisco where she went to work in the Ship Yards, getting certified as a Navy welder. Her little petite, 5 foot size allowed her into the deepest and smallest parts of the great war ships being built where others couldn't reach. It was during the war that she met Frank """Smitty""" Smith, Jr. of Tennessee at a USO """dime-a-dance""". After being introduced to June by her twin sister, Jean, Smitty as he was known by his friends, proposed to June on the dance floor. They were married after the war, on June's 21st birthday and remained together for almost 64 years. They have lived in Sonoma county for 14 years. ""
