Barbara J. Allen

July 7, 1924 — March 20, 2012

Barbara J. Allen - Passed away on March 20, 2012 in San Rafael. Devoted wife of 46 years to the late George V. Allen. Adored mother of Colleen Dunaway (Larry), Bud Lush (Laurie), and Mike Smith (Linda). Cherished step-mother of Elizabeth Racicot (Victor), Bob Allen (Judy), Terry Durrant (Jim), and Jim Allen (Debbie). Beloved grandmother of 11 and great-grandmother of 20. Dear sister of Sr. Colleen Kern, SNJM, and the late Bill Kern. Loving sister-in-law of Patricia Kern and Glennette Noreen. Survived by several nieces and nephews. Barbara was born in San Francisco, but reared and educated in Fairfax, graduating from St. Anselmâ??s High School in San Anselmo in a class of 13. She worked as a secretary in the insurance industry for most of her life, but retired from Pomeroy Concrete in 1986. In her spare time, Barbara enjoyed line-dancing, hiking, traveling, playing bunco, and her monthly lunch group. Very giving of herself and her time, she volunteered at Kaiser Hospital for the last 12 years, as well as Sacks Thrift Avenue. She and George were members of and loved traveling with the Go-Fer-Kix RV Club. Together, they also enjoyed being a part of the Petaluma Elkâ??s Lodge. Barbara also was fond of her occasional trips to River Rock and the horse races. However, the loves of her life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with them and making her famous beef jerky for them. Barbara was a wonderful woman; she will be missed. Friends and family are invited to attend the Memorial Liturgy, Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma, CA.
