Barbara Jean Bosco of Novato, CA died on Feb. 23, 2013. She was born Betty Regina Shurberg on August 24, 1923 in New Britain, Connecticut to Myer Shurberg and Mary Stern Shurberg. She took the name Barbara Jean when school officials refused to allow her to use the name Betty Regina.
Betty, as her close family called her, grew up in New Britain, CT, graduating from New Britain High School in February 1941 and Teachers College of New Britain, CT in 1945.
She worked for many years as a legal secretary in Hartford, CT and Walnut Creek and San Rafael, CA.
She was married to Theodore D. Brown in 1944 with whom she had 3 children, David A. Brown of West Palm Beach, FL, Roberta B. Gaebe, wife of Thomas D. Gaebe, of Petaluma, CA and Carol J. Rowson of Richmond, CA , who survive her.
She was married to Harry G. Bosco from 1980 until his death in 2009. She is survived by Harry's children, Douglas Bosco and his wife Gayle Guynup of Santa Rosa, CA, Robin Atherton and her husband Steve of Saratoga, CA, and Barbara Bergstrom of Reno, Nevada. Another daughter, Carol Knechtle, predeceased Harry.
She left a sister, Gladys I. Weissman of Williamsville, NY and a brother Irving B. Shurberg of Newington, CT. She is survived also by 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Feb. 24, 2013 at the chapel of Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Sebastopol, CA where she was interred next to her late Husband Harry G. Bosco.
