Betty Jane Johnson

March 12, 1920 — May 19, 2017

BETTY JANE JOHNSON peacefully passed away in her sleep during the early morning hours on May 19th.  She had recently moved from the Altamont Apartments in Rohnert Park to the Brookdale Paulin Creek Assisted Living Community in Santa Rosa.  She immediately became active in their exercise program, playing and winning at bingo, and going on their Sunday drives around Sonoma County.  She had excellent food and care while there and thrived on it. Betty was born in Bloomington, Illinois to Guy and Ethel Million.  She was the oldest of 8 stepsisters and brothers whom she loved and kept in close contact with all her life.   She grew up in Duluth, Minnesota where she met her best friend, Arline.  They have corresponded regularly for nearly 75 years.  She met the love of her life, Quenton, while ice skating on a favorite spot in the outdoors of Duluth.  They married in 1939; they had been married for 47 years when Quenton passed away.  They had three daughters, Gayle (Peebles), Carol, and Kay.  Carol passed away at age 9.  Betty has three grandchildren: Andrew (Dianne), David (Katrina) and Joelle (Mike); and four great grandchildren:  Alanna and James of Fremont and Ashlyn and Brianna of Santa Rosa. As a homemaker, Betty sewed bridal gowns, fostered infants as well as provided daycare in her home.  Later, she worked as an information operator for Bell Telephone and as a temp Kelly Girl.  While temping at Coca Cola Company in Los Angeles, she was asked to join the company permanently.  She worked there for about 12 years before retiring and moving to Rohnert Park.  During the years, Betty enjoyed ice skating, reading, crocheting, playing bingo and slot machines, and going out to dinner.  More recently, she crocheted hundreds of colorful lap blankets which she donated to the children in Hospice care.  Betty was loved as a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She will be missed for her gentle, quiet nature and her sweet smile.  The family is having a private service and get together to share memories.
