Bob Pope

Bob Pope - Bob Pope passed away gently and peacefully with his family around him, either present or in thought in Kernville, CA, on December 29, 2007. Beloved husband of the late Bel Pope. Loving father of Laura Pope Casey of Asheville, NC, Stephanie Pope Hanzlik of Kernville, CA, and Scott Pope of Petaluma. Friend and step-father of Lon Herbert of Glen Ellen, CA and Patricia Taylor of Fall River Mills, CA. Loving Grandfather of Christopher Casey of Asheville, NC, Patrick Casey and Shannan Casey both of Memphis, TN, Mark Urbani of Fort Bragg, CA, Kelley Freeland of Mission Viejo, CA, Michael Pope of San Francisco, CA and the late Justin Pope. Great- grandpa of Emma Grace Freeland of Mission Viejo, CA. Bob was born in Stockton, CA to Alma and Oscar Pope where he was raised and educated, completing his schooling at Santa Rosa Junior College and with the University of California until attending mortuary college in Los Angeles. He was associated with Pierce Brothers Mortuaries in Los Angeles until 1954 when he returned to Petaluma to join his father in the ownership of Sorensen Funeral Home. Bob was instrumental in building the new facilities for Sorensen Funeral Home in Petaluma, which now houses the Petaluma Police Dept. He retired in 1982, and after 35 years of funeral service he sold the business to Parent Funeral Chapel. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Corp during WWII. He was a lifetime member of the International Order of Rotary as well as a member of the Petaluma Lodge #901 B.P.O.E., Odd Fellows and the Masonic Lodge and past president of the High Twelve, Petaluma Golf & Country Club and the Petaluma Chamber of Commerce.
