Bruce Langley

May 15, 1936 — November 10, 2022

Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and dear friend, Vernon “Bruce” Langley, died peacefully on November 10, 2022. Born in Rio Del, California on May 15, 1936, Bruce was 86 years young.

Bruce had many accomplishments throughout his life. At 17 years old, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. and was a proud veteran. He established a distinguished career as a Foreman in the Operating Engineers Union and built many of the streets throughout Sonoma County and Northern California that we drive on today. He was instrumental in building Sears Point Raceway and was very proud of the 7 miles of freeway he built in Samoa, California.

Bruce lived his life with much ambition and determination -- the pedal to the floor, no rear-view mirror, and often an unknown destination ahead. He was a handyman, mechanic, woodworker, craftsman, national traveler, great story-teller and conversationalist. He was an exceptionally great dancer and loved to tinker and mechanic every chance he got. He had a lifelong passion for racing, which ignited when his son Pete began motocross racing as a young teen. Some of his fondest memories were packing up his family and chasing motocross races throughout the states. He carried this passion with him throughout his years and enjoyed going to races both locally and throughout California. He and his friends were loyal fans to race car driver, Kyle Larson.

Bruce lived the past 15 years of his life in Petaluma, where he had the pleasure of being surrounded by much of his family on a daily basis. He was married to Dorothy Langley for over 25 years and they remained friends for her entire life.  He later married Blandina Sandy Freitas and together they had many wonderful adventures, including teaching dance lessons in Hawaii and traveling in their motorhome to every state in the US.

Bruce was a dedicated father to his children and worked hard his whole life so they could have the best lives possible.  He is survived by his children, Pete Langley (former Jonell Langley), Rick Langley, Carolyn Langley (late Rob Jones), and Corinne Muelrath (Keith).  His beautiful daughter, Linda Young, preceded him in death.  Bruce is also survived by his grandchildren (Tim, Kevin, Kyle, Kelly, Lindsey, Chris, Kasie, Hanna, Claire, and Sierra and partners (Lainee, Jocelyn, Pepi, Britain, Rick, Tommy, and Jared.)  He loved spending time with his grandchildren and his 15 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister, Janice Stewart, brother, Mike Langley, and nieces Liz (Jimmy), Nikki and Tonne, and numerous other dear family members and friends.

Bruce made it to the checkered flag and the world is a little dimmer without him here today. He will be truly missed and never be forgotten.

The family will host a celebration of his life on December 17th at 1:00 p.m. at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds, Herzog Hall. 175 Fairgrounds Drive, Petaluma, CA, 94952.
