C. E. "Susie" Smith - Susie Smith, 90, peacefully passed into the arms of our Lord on September 17, 2009, in Petaluma. She was the devoted wife of the late Joseph Robert Smith and is survived by her son, Robert Smith and his wife Evi of Petaluma; her granddaughters Toula Hubbard and her husband Chris of Pacific Grove, CA and Susie Berlin and her husband Curtis of Morgan Hill, CA; her great grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as â??Great Grannyâ??, Alexi and Conner Berlin of Morgan Hill and Thalia and Niko Hubbard of Pacific Grove and several nieces and nephews.
Open casket viewing at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 26, 2009 and Funeral Service at 11:30 am at PARENT-SORENSEN MORTAURY AND CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma, 763-4131. Interment: Two Rock Presbyterian Church, Petaluma. Memorial contributions may be made to Police Department Welfare Benevolent Fund in her memory.
Susie was born March 13, 1919 to Caroline Elizabeth and William Henry Hunsinger, the youngest of three children. Susie grew up in Altoona, Pennsylvania and later lived in Bellefonte where she was the bookkeeper for the school district. She moved to California in 1965 and became a licensed ham radio operator with the call sign WB6UVU. During the Vietnam conflict she spent up to 20 hours a day connecting soldiers on the hospital ships with their loved ones throughout the United States.
