Carl Flegal - Sept. 4, 1914 (Auburn)-Sept. 27, 2011 (Santa Rosa), age 97. One of five remarkable brothers who grew up in San Francisco and Oakland, sons of Reverend Frank Porter Flegal and Edith May Davis Flegal. Carl played collegiate basketball at UC Berkeley, majored in accounting and graduated Phi Beta Kappa, 1938. He married Elizabeth Holt in 1940 and they celebrated their 65th anniversary in 2005. He served in WW II as a Navy Lt., enlisting shortly after Pearl Harbor.
He was a passionate gentleman with a very strong moral compass. He was an active supporter of the family"s churches: Piedmont Community, Centerville Presbyterian (elder) and Santa Rosa First United Methodist. They played golf regularly for 30 years at Sequoyah Country Club and later, Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club. They enjoyed backpacking in the Sierras. He played poker once every month for over 60 years with a very close group of friends. Carl and Elizabeth also had a few long term bridge groups over the years. Frequently they traveled the world with many of their long time friends.
