Carlo Arnold Patocchi

October 4, 1936 — February 8, 2024

Petaluma, CA

Carlo Arnold Patocchi, age 87, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2024. Loving father of Larry Patocchi (Tori), Lisa Ohman (Mark), David Patocchi (Lisa Marie), and Dina Solis (David). Cherished grandfather of Chelsea Thompson, Brittany McMullin (Josh), Trevor Patocchi (Savannah), Scott Scheppelmann (Lisa), Leslie Scheppelmann, and Olivia and Joaquin Solis. Great-grandfather of Madeline and Miles McMullin, Donny Buck Thompson, Stella Scheppelmann, and Paul and Tristan Patocchi. An only child, Carlo was preceded in death by his beloved wife Judy of 60 years, his father Arnold J. Patocchi and mother Olga Patocchi.

Born in San Rafael, Carlo and his parents lived on Wetmore Lane in Chileno Valley until moving at age 7 to a small Petaluma home at the corner of Lakeville Highway and Casa Grande Road, where his mother owned and operated a gas station and restaurant, and his father owned and operated a hay hauling business, North Bay Hay. Carlo’s early years were spent around his mother’s restaurant and prized racing horses, even boasting that he frequently rode by horse to Bliss Elementary School up Casa Grande Road. Carlo attended Petaluma High School, where he met Judy on a school bus. After graduating high school in 1955, Carlo worked in his father’s hay business, delivering hay to local ranches and nearby counties. Carlo also enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served as a reservist mechanic in the 349th Troop Carrier Wing at Travis Air Force Base from 1957-1962. Carlo and Judy married on June 14, 1958, and went on to have four children, while owning and operating the Tivoli Hotel from 1959-1970 and the Tivoli II Bar & Restaurant from 1971-1995, where together they created a favorite local gathering place, serving up delicious homemade family style meals, and making wonderful friends and memories for over 35 years.

Those who knew Carlo, know how much he loved to entertain and be the life of the party, earning nicknames such as The Iron Man, Big C, and Smokey Patocchi. At their lovely home on D Street, Carlo and Judy hosted many festive holiday parties and fun BBQs by the pool, where family, friends, neighbors, and restaurant employees were always welcome to enjoy their generous hospitality.

After retiring in 1995, Carlo enjoyed tinkering in his garage, tending to his garden, and spending time with his family. Of all his successes, Carlo’s greatest accomplishment over his lifetime was always his beloved family, who will miss him deeply.
