On Monday, July 31st, 2017, Catherine "Kitty" Dobbert, wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt and sister, peacefully passed away in her sleep at Vintage Brush Creek in Santa Rosa, California. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard "Dick" Dobbert. Kitty was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Marie Ferro, and her beloved brother Jim Ferro.
Kitty was born November 22nd, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio. She attended Ohio University (Alpha Xi Delta Sorority) and graduated in 1953. Showing the beginning of her lifelong adventurous spirit, Kitty headed west for her first teaching job in Salinas, California. She decided to live in Carmel, as it was just a hop, skip and a jump from Salinas and had so much to offer. Kitty's sister, Rose Marie Wreaks, followed her three years later and that was the beginning of their adult "best friend-sister relationship" that would stand the test of time.
It was in Carmel where Kitty met the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Dobbert. At the time, Dick was working at Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical. Kitty was united in marriage to Dick in Carmel Valley, California on June 14th, 1958. They eventually moved to Santa Rosa, California, where they lived for the remainder of their years, raising their four children. Dick preceded Kitty in death on September 27th, 1992.
Family, faith, helping others and traveling were Kitty's passions. She was a lifelong member (60 years) of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, taking many trips with the church all over the world. She often volunteered locally in Santa Rosa and in her eighties, decided that she could combine her love of helping others and traveling by volunteering at an orphanage in Ghana, Africa. Kitty's patience and compassion served her well during her many years of teaching, including Ursuline High School and Rincon Valley Summer School. Kitty loved walking and hiking, whether it was around Spring Lake with friends or taking day trips with her hiking club. Kitty was an avid bridge player, often hosting rousing games at their home.
Kitty will be forever remembered and cherished by her four children, Michael Dobbert (Alyson), Mary Meuchel (Kelvin), Richard Dobbert (Lisa) and Ann Meyer (Jim). She will also be missed by her six grandchildren, Tyler and Darren Meuchel and their respective spouses Ellen and Hailey, Casey and Anna Dobbert, Boone and Jackson Meyer, in addition to numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Visitation and Rosary/Vigil Service on Friday, August 11th at 3pm at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1244 St. Francis Road, Santa Rosa, California, followed immediately by the Celebration of the Funeral Mass at 3:30pm.
