Charles Joseph Edwards

October 13, 1940 — September 20, 2015

Passed away on September 20, 2015, in Santa Rosa, CA. Son of the late Mary and Edward Edwards, Sr. Caring husband to Sue Edwards. Wonderful father to David Edwards (Hong) and grandfather to Conner Edwards, his pride and joy. Loving brother of Edward Edwards, Jr. (Peggy), Robert Edwards and the late Mary Mauldin and Phillip Edwards. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Charles attended elementary school in Cincinnati and graduated high school from Sacred Heart Seminary. He served in the Air Force in the early 1960s and was stationed in Hawaii. He completed his college degree at San Francisco State University and received his teaching credential from Dominican College. His school teaching career in Old Adobe Union School District lasted 28 years and also included a small stint teaching inmates at San Quentin prison and St. Vincent's School for Boys. He was most remembered by his students for his teaching style and also for the cinnamon bear rewards he gave on special occasions. He was involved in the community as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. James Church, a participant in March of Dimes fundraisers and a member of Retired Teachers, SIRS, the Elks and American Legion. He enjoyed visiting cities in California and learning their histories, especially regarding the Gold Rush. He was also known for his vivid and wonderful storytelling from his childhood and early life. He was 74 years of age. Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Liturgy, Friday, September 25, 2015 at 11:30 AM at PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. Visitation will be after 10:00 AM Friday, prior to the service. Entombment, Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Petaluma, CA. The family prefers memorials be made to St. James Church or to your favorite charity.
