Charles Eischen, a long-time Washington, DC and California news reporter, died on June 10, 2013 in Petaluma, CA at the age of 90 years. Survivors include 15 nieces and nephews and eight grand-nieces and nephews.
Charles was a 1949 graduate of Stanford University with AB and Master degrees. He was the city editor of the Marin Independent Journal, in San Rafael, CA, a bureau chief for the San Francisco Examiner, aero-space reporter for the San Diego Morning Union and worked in Washington, DC for the Carpenter News Bureau, the Boston Herald Traveler, and the Honolulu Advertiser covering Capitol Hill. He was a 40 year member of the National Press Club.
He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for service with the U.S. Army during World War II seeing action in the Battle of the Bulge and with leading elements of the Army taking the Remagen Bridge in Germany.
As per his wishes there will not be a service. Inurnment will be at the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
