Charles Eugene Rudolph, Jr. - RUDOLPH, Charles Eugene (Chuck) - Age 92, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2007 in Sebastopol, California. He leaves behind Marjorie, his wife of 65 years. He was preceded in death by his younger siblings: Jim Rudolph, Barbara Cranston, and Jack Rudolph, and is survived by his sister Elizabeth Thompson of Minneapolis, MN.
Chuck was born and raised in Minneapolis where he graduated from the University of Minnesota with a DDS. He served as a naval officer in World War II after which joined his father's dental practice in Minneapolis. Chuck re-enlisted in the Navy in 1949 where he served as an officer in the dental corps for over 25 years retiring as Captain in 1967. He joined the faculty of the University of Southern California serving as Chairman of the Endodontics Department and Director of Dental Continuing Education until his retirement in 1971. His career was devoted to teaching, writing, research and lecturing nationwide. He was inducted into the American College of Dentists in 1958 resulting from his innovations in the field of endodontics. After his retirement from USC, and a year of traveling the United States, Chuck and Marge settled in Sebastopol. They traveled worldwide to Europe, Asia and Canada inspiring Chuck to create an international phonetic alphabet. He also designed sailboats and houses, collected jazz, sports cars, and science fiction.
