Resident of Petaluma. Passed away peacefully on February 21, 2015, at the age of 86. Born September 6, 1928 to Emanuel and Stella Cameron in Freshwater, CA. Loving husband for over 66 years to Nancy Alice (Iverson) Cameron. Cherished father of Roger Cameron, Joan O'Keeffe (Spike) and Gayle Baker (Mike). Proud grandfather of Kelly Bassett (Rick), Megan O'Keeffe (Mike), Jason Cameron (Yves), Luke Baker (Kial) and Becky Brown (Steve). Doting great grandfather to Jack and Hailey Bassett. Survived by his sister Juanita Graubart (Scotty) of Escondido and preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters. Loving brother-in-law to Lillie Miller. Uncle to many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Jack was a graduate of Petaluma High School in 1946 and it was there that he met the love of his life, Nancy Iverson. They were married in 1948.
Jack worked for over 40 years in the grocery business at many stores in Petaluma making lifelong friends as he greeted everyone with a smile and often, a nickname or a song. He owned and operated King's Corner Store in the 1960's. His dedication to the work ethic continued after his retirement from the grocery business when he started another career as an Ice Guy with the North Coast Ice Company and later a bank courier for Northbay Savings. During this time, every Christmas season found Jack working at Larsen's Tree Farm on Magnolia Avenue. In 1995, Jack began another career as a volunteer at Sack's, Hospice of Petaluma Thrift Store. Jack loved his work at the thrift store and more so, those he worked with. He was recognized as Volunteer of the Year in 2002. He enjoyed volunteering six days a week and continued this service until his cancer diagnosis in late 2013. He reluctantly "retired" again and spent his last year of life with his beloved wife Nancy and family.
Jack's love of sports and people led him to coach baseball and play softball throughout his life. Jack attended many high school sports events and volunteered whenever he was needed. He enjoyed watching all his grandchildren participate in various sporting activities. He was looking forward to attending his great-grandson Jack's first Little League game in March.
Jack was an active member of the Danish Brotherhood of America and the Elim Lutheran Church. He and Nancy enjoyed their motor home trips with friends and family throughout the United States.
Jack was loved by many and will be deeply missed. Please join his family and friends at a memorial service on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 3:30 pm at Elim Lutheran Church. A reception will follow immediately in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Petaluma or the Elim Lutheran Church.
