Clementine Hess Shanahan

Entered into rest surrounded by family and friends, peacefully in her home on April 11, 2017. Born in New Hampton, IA, to Mary and Joseph Hess, Clementine was one of five siblings, Joseph, Mary, Josephine and Norbert, all of which have predeceased her. At the age of 21 she moved to San Francisco where she met and married the love of her life, Kevin Shanahan. They celebrated 36 years of marriage prior to his death in 1988. In addition to being a homemaker and volunteer, she worked for many years as a book keeper and executive secretary in downtown San Francisco. Clem applied for a small business loan, purchased a word processor and started her own business in Santa Rosa, Word Works, which she continued well into her eighties. Clem enjoyed retirement and always felt fortunate to live in Sonoma County for 35 years. Clementine was the proud mother of their four children: Timothy, Patricia, Catherine and Daniel who were born and raised in San Francisco. She is also survived by her daughters-in-laws Deborah and Clare, four grandchildren; Kevin (Lisa), Frank (Tessa), Kelly and Ryan, along with three great grandchildren, Aiden, Riley Elizabeth, and Madden. Friends and family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (1244 St. Francis Road, Santa Rosa, CA, 95409). Reception to follow. LAFFERTY & SMITH COLONIAL CHAPEL (4321 Sonoma Highway, Santa Rosa, CA, 95409) will provide Visitation Hours on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with a Vigil/Rosary Service commencing at 7:00 P.M. in the main chapel.
