Curtis Keith Yellow Horse passed away on October 2nd 2023. Curtis was born to Lola Yellow Horse on December 1st, 1951 at the old Cheyenne Agency in White Horse South Dakota. Growing up, Curtis excelled at sports playing basketball and wrestling. Curtis earned his way through life beginning by working for ranchers in South Dakota. This is where he learned to break and train horses. Curtis moved to California as a teenager where he attended Live Oak High School.
Curtis’s passion was horses and he was happiest and most at home on the back of a horse. He trained horses throughout his life. He was also a Butcher by trade working at Oliver’s market for many years. Curtis was an excellent craftsman, working with leather chin straps, hackamores and bridles.
Curtis is survived by his wife of 34 years Melinda Yellow Horse. Children: Paul Yellow Horse, Katora Yellow Horse-Ruiz, Danielle Mendonca, and Jason Mendonca. Grandchildren: Caitlyn Yellow Horse, Cori Yellow Horse, Elijah Ruiz, Tristan Ruiz, Kayden Yellow Horse-Ruiz, Gabriel Yellow Horse-Ruiz, Andrew Burns, Janessa Mendonca, Thomas Mendonca, Julianna Wilson, Maria Mendonca, Victoria Mendonca, Eric Mendonca, and Olivia Mendonca. Uncle Joe Fiddler, brother Richard Packard and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Curtis is preceded in death by his beloved grandparents Myrtle and Joseph Fiddler, Mother Lola Packard, brother Dale Yellow Horse, and sisters Loretta Fiddler and Marylin Yellow Horse.
Curtis’s family will host funeral services on December 2nd 11:00 AM at Parent Sorensen Funeral Home, 850 Keokuk Street Petaluma CA 94952. A reception will follow at the Cotati Veterans Memorial Building, 8505 Park Avenue, Cotati, CA 94931.
