Dave was an Independence Day baby having been born on July 4th, 1934 in Bremerton, WA to Melvin and Julia Ruef. He passed away on July 13, 2013 with his loving wife, Karen, at his side. Dave went to school in Bremerton and then to Olympic Junior College and the University of Washington. Through high school and college, Dave loved sports and excelled in baseball which he played well into adulthood. His college education was interrupted by six months in the Army Reserve at Fort Holabird, MD. He then returned to college, and after graduation, he started his life long career working in sales, retiring in 1999. Golf was Dave's passion. While in Sacramento he played at El Dorado Hills and Empire Ranch Golf Club. The Links at Bodega Harbour became his second home when he moved to Novato as he worked in the pro shop and played golf in his off time. Dave played with the Bodega Harbour Men's Club, Bodega Harbour Senior Men's Club, Pioneer Club, and Rooster Run Senior Men's Club. Dave and Karen lived in Palm Springs during the winter months where Dave loved to play golf with the Men's Club at Tahquitz Creek and Cimarron as well as playing wherever he had the opportunity. He and Karen loved to travel, and among his greatest joys was playing golf at St. Andrews, Scotland. Dave was married for twenty years when his first wife, Joyce Guy Ruef died. They had had two children, Mark and Allison. Dave became reacquainted with his current wife, Karen, a widow, with a daughter and son whom he had known for thirty years. Dave and Karen were married June 18, 1988 blending the two families. Dave leaves his wife, Karen, a brother, Ray Ruef, a step brother, Russell Smith, his children Mark Ruef and Allison Ruef Carter, his step-children Warren DeMartini and Elisabeth Dick, and his adored grandchildren, Owen, Julia, Joelle and Olivia Carter; Michael and Nicole DeMartini, and Jamie and Casey Dick, and his great- grandchildren, Anthony, Martine, and Michael DeMartini. He was predeceased by his parents, former wife, and a brother, George Ruef.
