David Dean Heaney

David Dean Heaney passed away surrounded by family on December 20, 2021, while on Hospice.

David was born May 17, 1932. The family was living in Meriden, IA, and he was raised on a farm. He loved animals and would race his horse, Larry. Two weeks after graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He quickly became an instructor, training men on munition assembly and safety. David served 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. Dave met Patricia (Patocchi) at Hamilton Air Force Base, where Patricia worked, and they married on October 16, 1954. David's beautiful wife kept the home fires burning throughout his two deployments to Vietnam, nurturing and caring for their three sons: David Miles, Jeff Daniel and Mark Steven. After serving his country, he worked for himself, owning a McDonald’s, the Gold Mine Saloon in Petaluma, and as an independent truck driver consolidating wine loads. During retirement, he hauled cattle at the Petaluma Auction Yard.

He leaves behind his bride, Patricia; three sons, David (Colleen), Jeff (Elena) and Mark (Shari); grandchildren, Joe (Sarah), Anna (Nate), Ryan, Shanon (Johnny), Jennifer (Robert), Dianna (Jeremy), David G. (Nyree), Sean, Miles, and Travis; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Aviana, Etta, Sabrina, Alicia, Lincoln, and Sean.

The family would like to thank the wonderful Staff at Hospice of Petaluma for all their support.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice of Petaluma, in David's name.

A visitation will be held at Parent-Sorensen in Petaluma on Wednesday, January 5th from 10-12 with funeral service and burial at Calvary Catholic Cemetery to follow.

Due to Covid restrictions, a Celebration of Life will be set for a later date.
