David Alan Hillendahl - Passed away on January 31, 2013 in Petaluma at the age of 85 years. Devoted husband of Madeline Hillendahl of Petaluma. Loving father of Lori Thornton of Tomales and David Hillendahl, Jr. of Petaluma. Cherished grandfather of Brianna Thornton of San Rafael, Marissa Thornton of Tomales, Brandon Hillendahl of Petaluma and Dawson Hillendahl of Rohnert Park. Dear brother of Roger Hillendahl of Crescent City and Bill Jones and his wife Margaret of Rohnert Park. He was passionate about nature conservation, especially wetlands. He was friends with August and Sam Sebastiani and was instrumental in helping create Viansa Wetlands at Viansa Winery with Ducks Unlimited. A Memorial Service will be held pm Saturday Feb. 9, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the mortuary, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. Memorial contributions may be made to the Petaluma Wildlife Museum, 201 N. Fair St., Petaluma, CA 94952 in his memory. He will be remembered for his lifetime love of hunting and fishing. He was once President of Ducks Unlimited, was co-founder of Sonoma County Fish and Wildlife Commission, served for 12 years as chairman of Sonoma County Fish and Wildlife Advisory Board, co-founder of Pacific Flyway Decoy Association, co-founder of Petaluma Outdoorsmen. He said â??The two things Iâ??m most proud of Are my family and the years I spent helping wildlifeâ?
