Deloriece Marie "Dee" Roberts passed into the arms of the Lord on September 12, 2016 with her family by her side. Dee was born May 15, 1933 in Santa Ana, California to Rozelle and Margaret(Doctor) Gilbert. She was the loving wife for 48 years to Don Roberts, Sr. of Santa Rosa. Mother of Craig Barnett, Fort Bragg. Step-mother to Don (Suzie) Roberts, Jr. of Sebastopol and Renee (Richard) Johnson, Sebastopol. Grandmother to Barbara Dee Brady (Jamal White) and Eva Rose Barnett, Dan (Kelly) Roberts, David Roberts (Jessica Sharrocks), Ryan Johnson (Heather Fahy) Rob Johnson (Carmen Calvar) and Richie (Elena Wedlake) Johnson. Great-grandma of four. She is predeceased by her only brother Robert Gilbert of Cucamonga California. She also leaves behind two nieces Chris (Bob) Hyde and Debbie (Steve) Cohen and sisters-in-laws Yolanda Gilbert, Lois (Buck) Smith and Dori Roberts.
Dee graduated high school in southern California and attended business college. She spent thirty-three years as a school administration secretary. She worked for Santa Rosa City School District and her last position was at Helen Lehman Elementary as the school secretary.
Dee grew up and spent her summers on the beaches of Southern California soaking up the sunshine. She loved fishing, camping, traveling, boating and spending time with family and good friends. She became a Christian in 1979, and began attending weekly Bible study classes which she also enjoyed. She was a member of Cross Point Community Church where she helped in the library with her expanded church family.
After retirement Dee traveled extensively. She visited Europe, the Caribbean, Hawaii and Mexico with her close girlfriends. She and Don traveled in their motorhome and visited all over the United States. They were frequent "Snow Birds" in Arizona, where they attended many Cactus League games while cheering on her favorite, the San Francisco Giants - even wearing her orange tennis shoes! During baseball season, she was never too far from her phone and headset so she could listen to "the game".
Dee looked forward to the annual hunting trip "with the boys". She and Don would leave early and head to Idaho taking their time to stop along the way and enjoy little side trips before they arrived in Montpelier. Here is where she would be found fishing every chance she could. She wasn't too keen on the cleaning of the fish, but she could sure fry up a mean meal! She often had a warm meal ready for the men when they returned to camp.
Dee loved family time, especially during the holidays. She looked forward to the annual Thanksgiving Holiday and Feast camping trip spent in Willits every year. There often were as many as 30 close family members. She loved sitting around the campfire next to Don as the two of them would listen to the stories and of course add their own version to the mix. She loved hosting family Christmas Eve every year and she would have every table set and decorated to perfection.
The family would also like to recognize special friends Brenda Brady, Cathy Franchetti, Barbara Lunceford, Janice Williams, Debbie Mc Junkins, Patty Beuhler and Karen Larsen.
