Donald Allen Dodson

DONALD DODSON passed away on Friday, January 15, 2016 in Santa Rosa surrounded by his family. Don was born to Virgil and Virginia Dodson on July 27, 1945 in Glendale, California. Growing up in an army family he lived in both Japan and Alaska, eventually settling in San Rafael, California, where he graduated from High School in 1963. It was in Santa Rosa in 1968 where he met Mary Ellen Clifford. They married on September 26, 1971. In 1977 they moved to Kenwood with one child and soon had three more. Together they raised their family and enjoyed over 44 years of marriage. Don worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Santa Rosa for 41 years and upon retirement took up driving for Meals on Wheels. His favorite part of his jobs was interacting with the people he served. In his free time Don enjoyed directing family camp trips, being Commodore of the Santa Rosa Sailing Club in the early 1970s, coaching his son's little league teams and cheering from the sidelines for all of his children's activities. His other passions included playing cards, reading and gardening, but mostly he cherished spending time on the Kenwood property, being with family and a good conversation over a meal or cup of coffee with friends and loved ones. Don was the loving husband of Mary Dodson, beloved father of Melanie Dodson-Bolin (Scott), Paul Dodson (Amy), Sarah McCool (Kevin), and Miranda Dodson. Adored grandfather of Riley and Dylan Bolin, Noelle, Tyler, Trinity, Ava, Caleb and Jessa Dodson and Allison McCool. Loving brother of the late Ron Dodson and brother in-law of the late Doug Clifford. Also survived by sister and brother in-law Jean and John Clifford and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.
