Donald Patterson died on April 4, 2025 in Petaluma, California. He was born in Buffalo, New York on January 18, 1927. He is survived by sisters Lois Reich of Batavia, NY and Irma Leake of Tampa, FL. He is predeceased by his brother Irwin, sisters Joy Patterson and Alice Torrelli, both of NY. The last year of WW II he served in the Merchant Marines and as the war ended, he joined the Army for the next three years. An accomplished musician, he was assigned to the Army band. While in Germany he married Inge Wagner. When they returned to the states, Don entered the University of Buffalo earning his master's degree in political science. His life was interrupted by his recall to fight in the Korean War, where he served as an officer, earning the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze and Silver Star for his bravery and leadership. On return to civilian life his work as an insurance investigator took him to Pittsburg and Boston. His company offered to relocate him to California and, as an avid golfer and swimmer, he jumped at the chance to live in sunny California. Inge, his wife, lost her life after a long battle with illness. Don continued his work and found happiness in his second marriage to Kathleen Brady, a kindergarten teacher. He served as a Deacon in his church, where he and Kathleen were both very active. Quite sadly, Kathleen died leaving Don and her family and friends heartbroken. Don carried on with many good friends, playing golf, traveling and still enjoying sunny California. Don is remembered as a special person. He was smart and funny. He was highly principled, caring for his family, friends and country. A day with Don was always a good day. A memorial service will be held for Don in May; date and time to be determined.
