Passed away on March 17, 2013 in Novato at the age of 92 years. Devoted wife for 50 years to the late Robert "Bob" Acorne. Loving mother of Gary Acorne of Marysville, CA, Mary Acorne of El Sobrante, CA, Dave Acorne of Petaluma and the late Ronald Acorne. Cherished grandmother of Miah, Jason, and Gracie.
Doris was born April 18, 1920, in Rockford, IL. She was born the second girl to Edwin Kuhn Owen & Bessie Rose Little. She traveled to California with her family when she was 10 years old and settled in Schellville, CA. She then moved to Santa Rosa to attend Santa Rosa Junior College to become a registered nurse. A talented athlete, she was twice champion in Womens' Tennis tournaments there, and also won the Best Posture Award in her class. It was at Santa Rosa Junior College that she met and married Bob Acorne sometime before he was sent into action in World War II in the South Pacific. He came home in 1946 and they had 4 children, Ronald in 1946, Gary in 1948, Mary in 1952 and David in 1955. Doris later was recognized as ladies champion at Petaluma Golf & Country Club and she enjoyed playing bridge with her friends in Petaluma, and they formed a weekly Bridge Club.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice by the Bay, 17 E. Sir Francis Drake, Suite 100, Larkspur, CA 94939-1708 in her memory.
