Doris was born on February 17, 1926, in Petaluma to Albina and Paul Garzelli, who had emigrated from Italy. She grew up speaking Italian as her parents were learning English. The family made their home on a dairy ranch south of Petaluma. Doris attended Union School and graduated from Petaluma High School. She married Gwyn in 1945 at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Novato and together they've enjoyed nearly 70 years of marriage. She worked alongside her husband on the ranch, feeding the sheep and cattle. And, for 27 years she worked as a bookkeeper for Shoreline Unified School District. In her spare time, Doris loved to bake and tend her flower garden. She was an active member of the Tomales Druids Order, Sons of Italy, and Italian Catholic Federation. She loved her cats, dogs, and covey of quail. Doris was a wonderful woman; her sweet smile will be missed.
