Doris L. Hulbert passed away peacefully on March 26, 2018 at the age of 90. Born September 9, 1927 in Susanville, California to Herb and Catherine Maahs, Doris and her twin sister, Dorothy, were the oldest of two sets of twin girls. Doris and her twin, along with her younger sisters, Mildred and Marilyn, grew up in Susanville and also in Eureka, California. Doris attended Eureka High School where she was a cheerleader and graduated in the Class of 1945. She went on to beauty college in Santa Rosa and obtained her Beautician’s Certification. One night in Eureka, CA, she went on a blind date to a dance, where she was swept off her feet and met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Hulbert. They married in 1951 and moved to Santa Rosa in 1962. She was a teacher’s aide at South Park Elementary School in Santa Rosa, a charter member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Santa Rosa and was an avid Bridge Player. She was a tremendous golfer, achieving a hole-in-one in Indio, CA, and family remembers her as “the best putter who ever played”. Besides golf, bridge, and church, she enjoyed dancing, traveling, bingo, reading gossip magazines and cheering on the 49ers, the Giants, and the Warriors. Doris was a tough cookie who had a lucky streak at bingo, always knew the latest celebrity gossip, and enjoyed watching Family Feud on television. Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Catherine Maahs, her twin sister, Dorothy Merryman, her younger twin sisters Mildred Adcock and Marilyn Strombeck, her beloved husband of 64 years Bob Hulbert, and her cherished granddaughter, Caty (Steve) Stockham. Doris is survived by her son, Dan (Sherre) Hulbert, daughters Sue (Bud) Rathke, and Pam (Matt) Nilsen; grandchildren, Ami (Shannon) Giusti, Rob (Tacy) Hulbert, Christy (Jarrett) Matteri, Stacey (Justin) Walker, and Scott Nilsen; and great-grandson, Dylan Walker. Doris loved her family and enjoyed spending the holidays, especially Christmas, all together. Leaving behind many beloved memories, with love and prayers, Doris is forever in our hearts. Private family services and entombment have been held.
