Douglas "Doug" Dennis Firkus

August 15, 1950 — February 27, 2018

Douglas (Doug) Dennis Firkus, of Petaluma, age 67, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness at Kaiser Hospital, San Rafael, on Tuesday, February 27th.

He was born in Stevens Point, Wisconsin and was the son of Bernadette and Dennis Firkus. Doug married Sue Gollonik on May 26th, 1973. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary by a cruise to Alaska and were two months shy of celebrating their 45th anniversary. He worked as a Premium Auditor and moved from Wisconsin to Maryland and finally California where he began his family with Sue.

Doug loved to make people laugh, always telling jokes with a great smile followed by his signature chuckle. He carried his lightheartedness into chats about football and dinner parties, where he impressed friends with his grilling skills.

One of Doug’s passions was spending time with his sons, Nick and Mike. He took them on numerous Boy Scout camping trips, golf outings and summer vacations to the lake. He and Sue were very active socially with the Elks 901, where Doug also served as Head Trustee for seven years.

Doug is survived by his Mother, Bernadette Firkus, Stevens Point Wisconsin, his wife Sue Firkus, his sons Nick, Watsonville, Mike, Pasadena, his brother Tom and sister in law Marie, Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

A memorial service to honor Doug’s life will be at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Petaluma on Saturday, March 24th, 2018 at 11:00 am.

Parent-Sorensen Mortuary & Crematory is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting any gifts to be in the form of donations to the Mariposa Wellness Center, 10 Car Street, Watsonville, California 95076.
