Douglas Arnold Dolcini

January 14, 1950 — May 27, 2021

Douglas Arnold Dolcini, age 71, passed away peacefully at his Petaluma home on May 27, 2021.

Doug grew up on the family ranch in Petaluma.  He was raised by his parents Arnold and Elizabeth (Betty).  Doug leaves his two sisters, Kitty Dolcini and Susan Bianchi, and four brothers, Steve, Jim, Mike and Paul Dolcini.  Doug loved working on the ranch and developed a genuine passion for the cattle and horses.

His work ethic and drive led him to partner with his brother Jim, and good friend Harold Ghisletta, where together they started a fertilizer spreading business.  Doug then partnered with his brother Jim to start Sonomarin Landscape Materials, Dolcini Bros. topsoil and trucking company, and also worked side by side to continue the family's multi-generational legacy of cattle ranching.

Doug married his wife Kathy, and together they had three children, Annie Mount (Brian), John and Grant Dolcini.  He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, Henry and Charlie Mount.  He especially enjoyed teaching them about cattle, horses, hunting, and most importantly "how to be a good eater."

Doug was a true character of many talents and qualities.  He was a proud Swiss-Italian, and had a deep connection with the land, animals, and the many people in his life.  Doug was a talented cattleman and horseman who was also skilled at operating heavy equipment.  He was a legendary story teller, and was full of humor, unmatched wit, and stress-free optimism.  Above all else, Doug loved spending time with his family and friends, especially when there was a good meal and cold beer within reach.

Doug had a significant impact on many within the community and will be missed dearly.  We know that he would want us to remember the good times, be comforted by the love, and celebrate a life well-lived.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Liturgy Service on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 6:00 pm at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 35 Liberty St., Petaluma and a Celebration of Life on July 18, 2021 at 1 pm, 6970 Red Hill Rd., Petaluma.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice, Marin Agricultural Land Trust (MALT), or your favorite charity.
