Earl Campbell - Age 80, passed from this life early Saturday morning, June 16, 2007 at his home in Cotati where he had lived for over 40 years. During the last days of his life he was surrounded by family and friends, including his son, Jeff Campbell, granddaughter Cerice Ogden, who lovingly cared for him for over 2 years, and Jennifer Guitan and Carolyn Bettencourt, whose gentle and compassionate care helped to greatly alleviate Earlâ??s anxiety and provide great comfort.
Earl was born on Jan. 5, 1927 in San Francisco to Earl and Irene Campbell. He received his schooling in San Francisco and later in Petaluma. At the age of 17, Earl joined the Merchant Marines, serving from 1944 into the 1950s on a number of different ships and had opportunity to see much of the world.
Upon returning to CA, Earl worked a variety of different jobs, learning a number of trades including welding, sheet metal and carpentry, and later went to work at the American Can Company in San Francisco as a machinist. Beginning in the mid 1960s Earl went to work at Mare Island Naval Shipyards where he was employed as an inspector on nuclear powered submarines, a job of which he was enormously proud.
