Edward Monroe Rogers

Edward Monroe Rogers - ROGERS, EDWARD MONROE, JR. - Passed away December 26, 2009, in Santa Rosa after a long illness at the age of 89. Born in Rawlins, Wyoming, on September 28, 1920, to Eddie Monroe Rogers and Rose Elsie (Blickfeld) Rogers. He was the youngest of three children. In 1930, Ed moved with his family to Eureka, California. Upon graduation from Eureka High School, he worked in a defense factory in Sacramento until his enlistment in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He then served as a machinist"s mate on board the USS San Francisco, participating in the battles of Midway, Wake Island, Iwo Jima, Saipan and Marshall Islands. In 1945, he married Geneva Ann Fleming of Eureka. Upon discharge from the Navy, the couple settled in Eureka and had two children, a son, Edward M. Rogers III, and a daughter, Loretta Ann Rogers. In Eureka, he worked as shop foreman for the County of Humboldt, then as a diesel mechanic for Tony Goslyn & Sons, and then for Howard Cooper Corporation and finally for Treasure State Equipment Company. In 1964, Ed moved with his wife and family to Santa Rosa where he worked for Stevenson"s Equipment Company until his retirement as service manager in 1988. He then worked part-time for Santa Rosa Diesel until 1996. Throughout his career, Ed was known for the depth of his mechanical knowledge, his versatility, and thoroughness as well as his great personal integrity. In 1991, his wife became seriously ill and for the next twelve years, he skillfully and lovingly cared for her until her death in 2003. Ed was a strong and caring person of great integrity. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Edward Rogers is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Edward M. Rogers, III and Cris Rogers of Santa Rosa; his daughter, Loretta Ann Rogers of San Anselmo; his three grandsons, Joseph, Nicholas and Kevin Rogers; his older sister, Catherine M. Atwell of Crescent City and many in-laws, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
