Eddy was born on January 4,1942 to Charles and Frances DeCarli at Petaluma General Hospital. He went to St. Vincent elementary school and graduated from St. Vincent High School in 1959. While there he played basketball all four years and kept all of the nuns and priests on their toes. After graduation, Eddy attended SRJC and decided to turn it into a four year college due to a small indiscretion (caught doing donuts on the front lawn). After the JC, Eddy entered the National Guard and upon completion of his service, he continued working for the family business, DeCarli Bros. Eddy started dating Teddie Pritchard in the early 1960’s. After a 7 year courtship, they were married in 1969. After his father’s death in 1972, Eddie stayed with the family business until 1976. At that time, Eddy and Teddie started their journey in the hotel/motel industry by purchasing a hotel in Red Bluff, CA. While there, as in anywhere they went, Eddy and Teddie made many friends, some of which turned into lifelong relationships. Eddy was also talked into taking a position on the planning commission and was instrumental in bringing drag boat racing to Red Bluff. After a few years in Red Bluff, Eddie and Teddie sold the hotel and “retired” for a bit and moved into a house they had built in Clear Lake Oaks. As it became the standard… after a few years there, they moved back to Petaluma. Eddy couldn’t stay idle very long and he really enjoyed their time in the hotel business. Eddy and Teddie found an opportunity to purchase a hotel at Clear Lake in Lucerne in the early 80’s. While there, Eddy became a member of the Lucerne Volunteer Fire Department’s board of directors and was an avid supporter of the Water Ski races. While owning and operating the resort, they had an opportunity to purchase an RV Park in Nice, Ca. With both businesses, they brought the ideology of treat people how you like to be treated and it will come back 10 fold. This is a motto that he instilled in his son as well as his grandkids. People that spent their vacations at either resort came in as customers and left as friends. Eddy’s personality, his laugh, his sense of humor and desire to have “a good time” drew people to him.
Eddy’s priority in life was his family. He and Teddie were married for 53 years and had the good fortune of working and living together for the majority of their adult lives. He truly enjoyed every minute of their journey together. Aside from Teddie, Eddy’s second love was for his grandchildren. He enjoyed every minute he spent with his “kids”. He was so proud of everything that they accomplished whether it be in sports, academics or life in general and couldn’t be happier to see the path’s that they are on and knows that their futures are bright.
Eddy was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Frances DeCarli. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Teddie DeCarli, his son Darrin (Tricia) DeCarli, granddaughter Emily DeCarli, grandsons Daniel and Jake DeCarli. Eddy is also survived by his sister Patsy and his niece Stacey (Ron) Badaglia, and her three daughters and nephew Ryan Terzian. Eddy was a long time member of Petaluma Golf and Country Club and the Petaluma Elks Lodge 901. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Rajesh Ranadive and Hospice of Petaluma for their kindness and assistance. If you were a friend, you were family. You were never met with a mere hello; you were met with a hug and a kiss. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Petaluma or to St. Vincent de Paul High School’s football program or your favorite charity.
