Edwina Fisher

March 14, 1922 — July 9, 2008

Edwina Fisher - Edwina passed away on July 9th after living bravely with Alzheimers and Parkinsons for several years. Age 86. Loving wife of the late Clarence Fisher and mother of the late Martha Caswell. Survived by her children Debbie Fisher, Bob Fisher and wife Diane, Ken Fisher and wife Andrea, and Judy Sovel and husband Steve. Devoted to her grandchildren Tammy, Shelley, Karen, Dennis, Chris, Stephannie, Sandy, Megan, Matt, and Laura. Edwina was proud to be the great grandmother of 10, soon to be 11. Edwina was an active member of the Petaluma United Methodist Church for over 40 years. She had a close-knit group of friends in the congregation. Her faith, family, and friends sustained her until the end. A memorial service will be held for Edwina on Saturday, July 26th at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Petaluma, corner of 5th and D Sts. Contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 410 D St., Petaluma, CA 94952. Born and raised in Davis, Edwina married Clarence Fisher shortly after graduating from U.O.P. in Stockton. She ran a daycare business in Stockton until moving to Sonoma County in 1962. While raising five children, she returned to college and earned a degree in early childhood education from U.C. Berkeley. She loved to travel and spend time with her family during the summers and directed a series of preschools in Santa Rosa and Petaluma during the school years. Her greatest reward during her 20 years as an educator came from directing the Petaluma Parent Nursery School for Petaluma City Schools. During her time there, she loved every one of her two-, three-, and four-year old students and supported each family with a dynamic parent education program. Through her work with children and parents, she left a fine legacy that continues to enrich her community.
