Elizabeth H. Chesnut

ELIZABETH CHESNUT, also known as "Holly," left this world on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016 at 4:00 am in Petaluma. She is survived by her brother, Morris; sisters, Greggie, Nancy, and Liz; and by her three sons, Brooke, Dan and Tim. Holly was born in 1935 in Milwaukee, WI, to Dr. Arthur Holbrook and wife Susan. She moved around a lot with her family and went to school in California through her college years. She met and married Dan Legore Chesnut in San Francisco, and they settled down in Tiburon with their three boys. The family later moved to San Rafael in 1962. Holly always wanted the boys to ski so she would take us to Sugar Bowl, and we would ski almost every weekend with the family. Our Dad was not fond of skiing so he helped a lot around the house and made it fun for all of us. Our Dad passed away early in our lives, in 1975, and Mom was a widow for 25 years. She moved to Grass Valley, bought a home and settled into this wonderful community in the Sierra Foothills. She met a gentleman named Clyde Hornsby, and they fell in love. Clyde moved in with Holly, and they lived together for fifteen years. It was the happiest time of our mother's life. Clyde was so handy in the kitchen and around the house; he could fix anything. After Clyde passed away, Mom declined to a point where we helped her move into assisted living in Grass Valley. Later, she was moved to Petaluma to Sunrise Assisted Living to be closer to her son Tim. It was here that she had her last breaths as she remained quiet, comfortable and happy. She was a wonderful woman and will be greatly missed.
