Elizabeth "Betty" Ries, 100, formerly of Niles, Ohio, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Elizabeth was born to Howard Carter, and May Bowker, June 10, 1918 in Niles, Ohio.
Elizabeth received her degree from Miami University and spent 24 years as a third grade teacher in Howland, Ohio. She married William Ries in 1968, and they lived together in Niles until William's death in 1997, at which time she relocated to Sonoma County.
Elizabeth is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Judy George of Rohnert Park, and Sue Assion of Gaithersburg, MD and 2 stepsons, James Ries of Warren, Ohio and Richard Ries of Niles, Ohio. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
With a passion for travel, adventure, and music, and a keen sense of humor, Elizabeth touched the lives of all who knew her. For those interested in her secret to living to 100: "eat three meals and make your bed every day."
A funeral service will be held for Elizabeth on Friday, August 31st, at 10:00 A.M. at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church in Rohnert Park.
