Esther Lynne Downing Stevens

February 23, 1917 — November 28, 2016

ESTHER LYNNE DOWNING STEVENS passed away on November 28, 2016 in Petaluma at the age of 99 years. Devoted wife of the late Steve Stevens, RAF. Cherished sister of the late Jim, Leroy, and Neely Downing; Bertha Robinson; William Downing, and Mary E. Miller. Survived by numerous nieces and nephews and her caregiver, Melaia Tubamasi. Lynne, as she liked to be called, was born in French Camp, MS. While growing up, she enjoyed fishing with her brothers. She attended Ole Miss where she was voted the prettiest girl on campus. During WWII, Lynne worked at the US Embassy in London, which is where she met the love of her life, Steve, an RAF pilot. She was a true southern belle, but because of her time in London, she obtained quite the mixed accent. After the war, they moved back to CA and Lynne started the rest of her career working at the State Capitol. During her time there, she enjoyed being a socialite and entertaining, also fine-tuning her gourmet cooking skills. Lynne was full of light and love. She took care of her invalid sister for over 40 years. She truly was an amazing woman; she will be greatly missed.
