Eugene R. Senften
September 6, 1922 - June 16, 2015
Eugene Robert Senften was born in Castleford, Idaho the youngest of five children. He was a veteran of the Second World War piloting his B17 bomber on 35 missions over Europe. Gene retired from reserve duty as a Lt. Colonel in 1982. Eugene was a graduate of the University of Idaho with a bachelor and then, a Master of Science degree in Dairy Manufacturing, Chemistry and Bacteriology. He was the first director of the Dairy Laboratory for the Idaho Department of Agriculture. In 1960, Eugene moved to Petaluma, California to become the Quality Control Manager for the Petaluma Co-operative Creamery and his lab became the first dairy lab accredited by the California Agriculture Department. Eugene retired from the Creamery in 1987.
He is lovingly missed by his wife of 68 years, Gloria, sons Bradford (Christine) and Robert (Linda), grandchildren Philip (Allison), Peter, James (Laura) and great-grandchildren Bailey, Luke, and Brooklyn.
A memorial service will be held at Elim Lutheran Church, 504 Baker Street, Petaluma, on Saturday, July 18th at 2:00 pm, Rev. Bill Wessner presiding.
